One of the coolest things about living in Pennsylvania has been seeing the Amish culture. There is, of course, the world-famous Lancaster County Amish, but even here in Dauphin County we also have Amish settlements... The other evening, I was driving along and happened to look up in time to see this. I had to turn around and go back to capture the moment.

Thank you... My only regret? We left home the other day and I didn't go back in to grab my camera... This was the old Fuji 2MP which I figured I'd let the kids start using.

Yes. I think I could live that lifestyle, but no one else in my family could handle it!

When we moved from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania a few years ago, we were teasing the kids that we had no house to move into, so we were going to get a big cardboard box and live in it. My son went to school and told everyone that!

But the Amish aren't that primitive... They have nice big houses, just no cars or distractions like TV's, cameras, etc.

I've heard about them myself. Very interesting lifestyle, though i dont think I could live like that. But anyway, what do they think technology distracts them from?

I agree. On a trip from upper state new york back to michigan I came across several small towns that were almost all Amish. Very interesting life I think, and beautiful capture! :+fav:

I am not going to delve too deeply into religion or politics, but basically technology can be a distraction from your beliefs... (read: religion). So the "plain people" live simply, a no frills lifestyle, consuming what they produce, and hopefully selling the excess. In reality - in today's world, many have to leave the agricultural background and do things like make furniture or other things to produce an income that will pay the taxes, etc., but ideally they can be self-sustaining...
