Artist's Comments

My favorite subject, St. Paul Lutheran Church. I've taken dozens of photos of this old church but never any good ones from this angle. The road tops a hill, and by the time I'd stop, I'd have the barn in between, or be too close otherwise... Today, thinking about this ahead of time, I stopped just at the top of the rise, pulling off the road into the grass, got out of the truck and crossed to the other side, and took these photos. Tell me which perspective YOU prefer, shot I ( [link] ) or shot II (this one).

I think this pair will be some of my favorites of the church, the rains of today had passed, but the sky to the east was still dark gray. Behind me, to the west, the sky was clearing and the late afternoon sun lit up the scene nicely.

It looks different with the other buildings in the picture. Still beautiful though...

Which version do you prefer? :)

It looks a little a lonely by itself, so I think I kinda like this one. What about you?

I am of two minds... at first glance I like the larger "feel" of the other photo, but looking closely, I like the detail of this one... That's why I asked YOUR opinion. :)

Nice shot, both of them. I like this one (shot II) better. Besides the fact that this image has better detail and color contrast it is a much better composition. It demonstrates good use of the rule of thirds and places the steeple as well as the barn and the house porch on major power points. The road has life and an air of mystery in this image. It twists and winds leading the eye around and making me want to see what is around the bend behind the tree. Very nicely done.
